maticulous began his hip hop journey as an on-air DJ at WIUP’s “The Underground” while attending college in PA. After moving to Brooklyn in 2004, he landed an internship at Fat Beats NY, the influential Manhattan institution at the heart of underground hip hop. He quickly worked his way up, first as a buyer under DJ Eclipse (Non-Phixion/La Coka Nostra), then as an A&R/sales rep for Fat Beats Records/Distribution. Immersed in the culture, maticulous found his true calling: creating & releasing music of his own.
In 2011, he released his debut project, The maticulous EP, manufactured & distributed by Fat Beats. Its lead single, “Body The Beat,” featuring Ruste Juxx, R.A. The Rugged Man & Rock of Heltah Skeltah, earned critical acclaim & more than 140,000 views on YouTube. Over the next several years, maticulous released a series of instrumental projects & produced for artists including MF DOOM, J-Zone, Shabaam Saadeeq & yU.
His first full-length project, The maticulous LP, arrived in 2015 via Soulspazm, featuring Masta Ace, Lil Fame of M.O.P., Rah Digga, Guilty Simpson, Blu & Your Old Droog.
A chance meeting with Justo The MC at SiriusXM in 2017 sparked a long-running collaboration beginning with Mind Of A Man (Tuff Kong Records/Myers Street Music), which landed on numerous year-end lists & was named one of Bandcamp’s top albums in January 2019. During a subsequent appearance on the “Live From HeadqCourterz” radio show, the legendary Gang Starr producer DJ Premier told maticulous he was a fan of his beats.
maticulous & Justo followed with Bonus Room (2019), County Of Kings (2020), Three (2022) & Bonus Room (Winter Edition) (2026), continuing to build with artists like The Audible Doctor, Rockness Monsta, Ill Conscious, Beedie, DJ Jon Doe, Davenport Grimes, Jennifair & Alex “Zran” Razran. At the same time, maticulous expanded his solo work with no caps (2021), bringing Homeboy Sandman, Skyzoo, Kev Brown, Guilty Simpson & Breeze Brewin into the mix, followed by The Expanse (2024), with eLZhi, Eddie Kaine, Rasheed Chappell, TENNIN, Ferris Blusa, AJ Suede & Hus KingPin. Across these records, new voices continually cross paths with longtime collaborators — a reflection of both maticulous’ signature sample-driven sound & the relationships he’s built throughout underground hip hop.
For his latest project, maticulous has joined forces with veteran New York MC El Gant for House of Cards, pairing El Gant’s dense rhyme flow & seasoned storytelling with maticulous’ dark, hard-hitting production. Brother Ali joins them on lead single “Wordle,” while Ill Consicuous, The Audible Doctor, Ferris Blusa, TENNIN & Alex “Zran” Razran return to the fold — continuing the shared history & deeply rooted connections that have long shaped maticulous’ work, reflecting a career built within the culture rather than simply around it.
House of Cards examines the fractures of contemporary American life through sharp lyricism, dry drums, deep bass & carefully constructed soundscapes. Classic street hip hop with a contemporary edge, the album marks the latest chapter in maticulous’ two-decade journey through underground hip hop.
